- How to target keywords
- Optimizing product pages
- Optimizing descriptions
- Optimizing Alt tags
1. Writing Product Page Content
When you create webpage content, never ever copy and paste it from other websites. Always write fresh, organic content and think about how you can help a user.
Writing the content
The hook is the most important part of writing content. Draw someone in with a creative hook, but also include the keywords you are trying to rank for within the first couple sentences. Not for just Shopify SEO but SEO, in general, will help generate traffic to the website.
For example, the video Get Traffic To Your Shopify Website Through SEO uses the Petite Syrah wine example.
The biggest issue is there is no hook. It’s a boring product page and you’ll notice the page has been copied and pasted. Every sentence you write on a product page has to grab the readers attention by the horns but entice them to want to continue reading.
In the body of the article include information about the product.
Try answering the following questions:
Why will this product help someone?
What separates this product from others?
How does my website seem better to buy from than others?
What are the unique selling features?
What questions will consumers have about the product?
2. Keyword Placement
Find the right keywords to target. Something with low difficulty and high search volume. Do NOT stuff keywords. Simply write your piece and if keywords fit then they fit.
In the page title, be sure to include the name of the product you are trying to sell. The page title shows on Google and pulls in headlines when people are searching on the internet.
The headlines must be creative.
For instance, I inserted the year into my headlines “2019” immediately I saw close to a 60% increases across 10 webpages. Two months after the increase went down to about 15% but keyword rankings increased as well.
Then in six months, the increases went back up to 60%. I noticed terms would start to outrank competitors like CNET, PCMAG, Home Depot, BestBuy, and many more.
3. Meta Descriptions
What are meta descriptions?
Meta descriptions are snippets Google pulls and inserts into Search Engine Results Pages or SERPs. Typically, they should be around 155-230 characters and include keywords. Again, if you want to rank for “Syrah red wine” insert the specific keyword into the description.
Searchers like all of us also use meta descriptions to determine if they want to go to a webpage. If your descriptions suck people will not click and Google will not rank it.
Use charactercounter.com to gage the number of characters of a meta description.
4. Alt Text for SEO
- Be descriptive
- Use keywords in the image if you can
- Don’t start the alt text with “picture of or image of”
